I Forgot my iPhone Today. Here’s What Happened.

Absolutely nothing. I left the house in a rush. I took grandma to the airport and the kids to preschool. I reached for my phone and it wasn’t there. So, I went old school and turned on the FM radio. I was sitting at a light and Def Leppard Pour Some Sugar on Me came on. That first beat took me back to being a kid in 1986. It was like deja vu. I remembered being at a traffic light in the back seat of an older ‘cool’ kids Mustang SVO. I turned it up.

It was quite nostalgic. And probably something I wouldn’t have experienced had my phone been with me. So I missed an Instagram post, was unable to ‘like’ a few friends Facebook posts, and didn’t get that super witty tweet out. And you want to know what? It was nice. The phone has become a sort of electronic leash. I’ve read people experience anxiety when they don’t have their phone. There’s even some sort of condition where people feel their phone vibrating when it’s not. I didn’t have my phone for four hours. But I lived. The world didn’t end.

Don’t get me wrong, the iPhone is a great tool. I can run my entire business from it. AmazonFBA, Shopify, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, etc. Everything I need is right there at my fingertips. Yet somehow I hope I forget my phone tomorrow.
